Today was your first book club of the year! You should have come to class with "September" and "October" read and with your Writer's Notebook entry completed. Below is a summary of how you will receive points for Book Club.
If you were gone today, you'll need to make up work for Book Club 1 and today's daily writing prompt:
Today, we talked about the question that we will explore this term as we read Wednesday Wars. The question that you'll be discussing and writing about is, "What are some experiences on the path to growing up that form our beliefs?" We talked about how our experiences form our beliefs and how our beliefs might change as we grow up. This is something to watch out for while reading Wednesday Wars.
If you missed class today, please do the following things. Instructions for these assignments can also be found in the slides presentation below. 1. Watch the video below ("La Luna") and answer the following questions in a new entry titled "La Luna" in your Writer's Notebook:
3. Take Reading Quiz #1 on Canvas to report on your home reading.
Today, we logged into Canvas, our online classroom, for the first time. We also set up our Writer's Notebooks, and prepared to read Wednesday Wars (the book that we'll read together for term 1) by learning about the time period in which the story takes place. You received a copy of Wednesday Wars that you're able to take home with you and that you're responsible for bringing to class every day. We also talked briefly about expectations for Book Clubs in class.
If you missed class today, go through the slides below to get logged into Canvas and to go through the intro for Wednesday Wars and Book Clubs. Next time you come to class, you'll need to talk to me about the following:
Today, you took the Reading Plus Pre-test to help us know what your current reading level is. If you missed class today, you'll need to make up this pre-test by following the instructions in the slides below.
Today, you received the disclosure document for this class. You learned about the procedures and expectations for class by going through an escape room!
You and your parent or guardian will need to read through the disclosure document together and then fill out and sign the disclosure document form online on my website. This form is found on the "Disclosure Document" page under "English 8 Honors" or by clicking on this link. If you missed class today, you can come see me to get a hard copy of the disclosure document or you can access a digital copy of the disclosure document on the "Disclosure Document" page under "English 8 Honors" or by clicking on this link. This form must be signed and submitted by August 25. You will get points for doing this. Welcome! I'm so excited to have you in my class!
Today, we talked about why it's important to have a classroom environment where everyone can learn, and I asked you all to do your best to follow our classroom rules and procedures so that we can have a productive learning environment in our classroom. You wrote an "I Am From" poem to help me get to know you better, and you filled out a student survey to help me get to know you as an English student. It's going to be a great year! |
